SITUATATIONAL LEVEL 5 LEADERSHIP

As I keep reading the “Good to Great” book,  I can see many connections with other theories on leadership.I believe that in order to be a Level 5 leader you need to accept that Situational Leadership Theory is a large portion of how you interpret and analyze decisions. In Collins book there is an example that demonstrates the use of Situational Leadership Theory.

Gillette faced three attacks that threatened to destroy the company’s opportunity for greatness. Colman Mocker chose to fight for the future of Gillette. And Senior Gillette executives reached out to thousands of individual investors to won the battle. In this case, it gives a situation to Mocker of making a decision between selling the company and making a lot of money of doing what would be great in the long term for the company. The employee by Gillette also follow Mocker’s decision because they respect their leader. By given a different situation, the reaction form the follower can reflect how success of a leader.

A level 5 leader is who with humility and will. A humble leader is one who can easily practice Situational Leadership because a Situational leader must take into consideration the follower and  ask themselves “Is this person confident and motivated?” A leader with a strong will  also easily practice Situational Leadership because a leader with a strong desire to be successful might characteristically try to do anything to get their team to succeed.

In concussion, level 5 is a situational leader would take into consideration the leader, follower, and situation to be successful.
