Traits and Me

I don’t necessarily believe in trait based leadership, but I do think that there are certain traits that are very important for leaders to possess. Some traits however, can be taught and sharpened with practice while others you cannot teach and they must be within the individual.According to the article Leadership: Do traits metter?, there are six type of traits include: Drive, Leadership Motivation, Honesty and Integrity, Self-confidence, Cognitive Ability, and Knowledge of the Business.

Personally, Leadership Motivation and Self-confidence are two traits that I admire most. Leadership motivation involves the desire to influence and lead others and is often equated with the need for power. It is a very challenge for a leader to learn  how to effectively motivate those working for them. Successful leaders must be willing to exercise power over subordinates, tell them what to do and how to do.

Self-confidence is very important to a leader too. Leaders are the lights in the dark. They drive their employees to a direction. Leader’s confidence gain employees’ trust, as well as friends’ and customers’. Self-confidence leader are decisive. They can make a decision immediately in an emergency situation. Also, self-confidence leaders are emotional stability. They can control their emotion when building relationships and dealing conflicts with others.
